A Critical Infrastructure for Financial Markets

Financial markets increasingly run on data. Trading, portfolio management, risk monitoring, and regulatory reporting all rely on continuous access to reliable financial information.

The financial and market data industry represents roughly $45 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach around $60 billion by 2030, growing at approximately 6% per year.

These platforms provide the informational backbone of the global financial system, delivering pricing data, corporate fundamentals, macroeconomic indicators, market news, and analytics tools used daily by investors and financial professionals.

Financial institutions account for the majority of demand. Asset managers, banks, and hedge funds depend on these platforms to monitor markets, evaluate investment opportunities, and manage risk in real time.

Beyond the financial sector, adoption is expanding among corporates, advisory firms, and law firms seeking better market intelligence to support strategic decisions and regulatory compliance.

Structural Trends Reshaping the Industry

The market continues to evolve as technology and investor expectations reshape how financial intelligence is produced and consumed.

Demand for high-quality and timely data is increasing as financial markets become more complex and volatile. Investment teams require immediate access to information in order to react quickly to macro economic events, regulatory changes, and market developments.

At the same time, cloud infrastructure and API-based delivery models are transforming how financial data integrates into enterprise workflows. Modern platforms increasingly embed directly into internal systems through APIs, Excel integrations, or analytics environments, making data accessible across investment, research, and risk teams.

Advances in artificial intelligence and analytics are also expanding the capabilities of financial data platforms. AI tools can process large volumes of structured and unstructured data, such as news, earnings transcripts, and regulatory filings, to identify patterns and generate insights more efficiently.

Despite these advances, reliability remains a critical differentiator. Financial institutions place a premium on trusted datasets that combine automation with human validation.

Platforms vs. Specialist Data Providers

The competitive landscape reflects a dual structure.

A small number of global platforms dominate industry spending. These integrated suites provide extensive coverage across asset classes and functions, often becoming the firm-wide source of truth for trading, research, and risk management. Once embedded in institutional workflows, switching providers becomes difficult due to the operational disruption and integration costs involved.

Alongside these platforms, a growing ecosystem of specialist providers focuses on highly differentiated datasets. These companies compete by delivering depth and expertise in areas such as:

  • ESG and sustainability intelligence
  • private markets and investment data
  • macroeconomic research
  • alternative and unconventional datasets

Rather than replacing large platforms, these providers typically complement them by delivering insights unavailable through traditional sources.

Dedale Intelligence Perspective

Our research indicates that three dynamics will shape the next phase of the financial data industry.

The strategic value of proprietary datasets is increasing as public data becomes easier to collect and process through automation and AI. Providers able to combine unique data sources with analytical expertise will maintain a strong competitive advantage.

Integration into investment workflows is also becoming a defining factor. Platforms that embed directly into research tools, analytics environments, and internal systems tend to achieve significantly higher customer retention.

Industry consolidation is likely to continue as large platforms acquire specialist data providers to expand their datasets and strengthen ecosystem lock-in.

In this environment, the ability to deliver reliable, differentiated market intelligence will remain a critical advantage for both providers and investors.
